Microsoft Teases Voice-First Windows Features

Intelligence: Microsoft is teasing a Thursday Windows announcement likely centered on voice-driven interaction and agentic AI in Windows 11, signaling a push to make voice a primary input alongside keyboard, mouse, and touch.

• Microsoft posted a teaser from the Windows account saying hands can rest and something big is coming Thursday, hinting at less typing and more voice use.

• Microsoft leaders have been priming a voice-forward vision for Windows where users can speak to the PC while writing or inking, and the system understands intent.

• Pavan Davuluri said users will be able to speak to the computer as it semantically understands intent, and David Weston said the PC will see and hear what we do for more sophisticated tasks.

• The announcement is expected to preview deeper natural language and agentic AI features in Windows 11 rather than a Windows 12 release.

• Adoption is uncertain given past pushback on new input methods, such as the touch-centric shift in Windows 8.

Google Meet Launches AI-Powered Makeup Filter

Intelligence: Google Meet is rolling out an AI makeup filter that offers realistic virtual looks and brings the service in line with rivals that already offer similar effects.

• The feature includes 12 makeup options located in the Appearance section under Portrait touch-up.

• Google says the virtual makeup stays aligned to your face even as you move or take a sip of coffee for a more authentic look.

• The feature is off by default and can be turned on before or during a call, and Meet will remember your selections for future meetings.

• The rollout began on October 8 on mobile and web.

• This builds on Portrait touch-up introduced in 2023 with options like complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening, and eye whitening.

• The update helps Google Meet compete with Microsoft Teams and Zoom, which already offer virtual makeup features.
