• Trump’s fake Jeffries video: U.S. President Donald Trump posted a deepfake video on his social platform depicting Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries in a derogatory light

The fake video was so convincing it fooled even experts (one went to check the real RTÉ site) and was only removed after regulators raised alarm about the threat to democracy

• “AI intruder” TikTok prank: A dangerous TikTok trend called the “AI Homeless Man Prank” uses AI-edited photos to fake a home intruder, sparking panic and even 911 calls from fooled family members

• Taylor Swift backlash over AI promo: Taylor Swift faced fan backlash after eagle-eyed Swifties noticed eerie glitches (wonky shadows, gibberish text) in promotional videos for her new album – telltale signs of generative AI

• Phil Foden hoax photos: Manchester City footballer Phil Foden was targeted by a cruel hoax in which trolls used AI to create images of him and his partner crying

• Senator deepfake scandal: A vulgar AI deepfake video of Sen. Amy Klobuchar went viral in July, portraying her ranting obscenely about actress Sydney Sweeney’s jeans ad – words she never actually said
