Chinese Startup Z.ai Launches GLM-5.2 with Frontier-Level Coding Performance, and a 1M Token Context Window

Intelligence: Z.ai released GLM-5.2, a 753 billion parameter open-weights model under an MIT license that beats GPT-5.5 on several major coding and agentic benchmarks while costing a fraction of the price of Western proprietary models.

  • The model ships with a stable one million token context window, selectable thinking modes for balancing performance and speed, and a new architectural trick called IndexShare that cuts compute requirements by 2.9x at maximum context length.

  • On SWE-bench Pro it scored 62.1, beating GPT-5.5 at 58.6, and it came within a hair of Claude Opus 4.8 on FrontierSWE, MCP-Atlas, and Humanity's Last Exam, while topping GPT-5.5 across the board on those same tests.

  • The MIT license is a big deal for enterprises. It means teams can download the weights freely, run the model on their own infrastructure, customize it however they want, and avoid vendor lock-in entirely, with no royalties or acceptable use restrictions.

  • Coding plans start at $12.60 a month and API pricing comes in at $5.80 per million tokens combined, putting it well below Claude Opus 4.8 at $30 and GPT-5.5 at $35, while matching near-frontier performance.

Microsoft Officially Launches Copilot Cowork Worldwide After Three Months of Enterprise Preview

Intelligence: Microsoft officially launched Copilot Cowork globally, an agentic system inside Microsoft 365 that runs complex multi-step tasks end to end, with more than half the Fortune 500 already using it after three months in preview.

  • Cowork is built to return completed results, not just drafts. Real preview use cases include a team comparing 4,000 files across two product versions in a fraction of the time it would have taken manually, and a sales lead getting a ranked list of stalled deals with specific follow-up context in a single morning.

  • It currently runs on Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6, with GPT-5.5 available in Frontier, and a new purpose-built Cowork 1 model coming in the next few weeks designed to handle everyday tasks at significantly lower cost.

  • Billing is usage-based and denominated in Copilot Credits, priced at $0.01 each on pay-as-you-go, with spending controls at the tenant, group, and user level so admins can set budgets and alerts before costs run away.

  • Nine new partner plugins are live now including Miro, monday.com, Moodys, and S&P Global Energy, with Adobe, Atlassian, Canva, and Databricks coming soon alongside full Dynamics 365 integration.

  • Microsoft says Copilot Cowork runs 30 to 40% cheaper per prompt than Claude Cowork using the Microsoft 365 connector, positioning it as the more cost-efficient option for organizations already in the Microsoft ecosystem.
