OpenAI Launches Instant Checkout in ChatGPT with Stripe

Intelligence: OpenAI introduced Instant Checkout in ChatGPT, powered by an open Agentic Commerce Protocol built with Stripe, enabling US users to buy from Etsy now and from Shopify merchants soon without leaving chat.

• ChatGPT serves more than 700 million weekly users, and US Plus, Pro, and Free users can buy from US Etsy sellers today, with over one million Shopify merchants, including Glossier, SKIMS, Spanx, and Vuori coming soon; single-item purchases are now available, with multi-item carts and more regions next.

• The Agentic Commerce Protocol is open-sourced and codeveloped with Stripe and merchants to work across platforms and processors, integrate quickly, and keep merchants in control as the merchant of record across fulfillment, returns, support, and communication.

• Orders, payments, and fulfillment run through each merchant’s existing systems while ChatGPT passes information as the user’s agent; merchants pay a small fee per completed purchase, the service is free for users, does not change prices, and does not bias product results.

• Product results are organic and unsponsored, ranked on relevance; when multiple merchants sell the same item, ChatGPT weighs availability, price, quality, whether a seller is the primary source, and whether Instant Checkout is enabled.

• Merchants using Stripe can enable agentic payments with as little as one line of code; those using other processors can participate via Stripe’s Shared Payment Token API or by adopting the Delegated Payments Spec without switching providers.

• Users confirm each step, payment uses encrypted tokens authorized only for specific amounts and merchants with permission, and only the minimum data required to complete the order is shared.

Anthropic Launches Claude Sonnet 4.5 and a New Agent SDK

Intelligence: Anthropic announced Claude Sonnet 4.5, featuring stronger coding, agentic, and computer use capabilities, along with major product upgrades and new safety measures, while maintaining the same pricing.

• Anthropic says Sonnet4.5 is state-of-the-art on the SWE bench, verified for real-world coding. It leads OSWorld at 61.4 percent for computer use, maintains focus for more than thirty hours on complex tasks, and shows gains in reasoning and math, with expert reviews citing better domain knowledge.

• Claude Code adds checkpoints that save progress and allow instant rollback, a refreshed terminal, and a native VS Code extension. The Claude apps now support code execution and file creation for spreadsheets, slides, and documents, and the Chrome extension is available to Max users on the waitlist.

• The API adds context editing and a memory tool to support longer-running agents. Anthropic released the Claude Agent SDK, the same infrastructure behind Claude Code, so developers can build custom agents beyond coding.

• Positioned as Anthropic’s most aligned frontier model with reductions in sycophancy, deception, power seeking, and delusional encouragement, plus stronger defenses against prompt injection. The system card includes evaluations that use techniques from mechanistic interpretability.

• Released under AI Safety Level 3 with classifiers to detect risks related to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear content. Anthropic reports false positives reduced tenfold since first described and twofold since Opus 4, with an easy fallback to Sonnet 4 if a conversation is flagged.
