Apple May Enlist Google Gemini to Power Siri AI Search

Intelligence: Apple is testing Google’s Gemini to deliver web search summaries in Siri via a new feature called World Knowledge Answers, while relying on its own models for private data, according to Bloomberg.

  • Apple is building World Knowledge Answers to let Siri search the web and return AI-generated summaries with an interface that includes text, photos, videos, and points of interest, positioning it against offerings from OpenAI and Perplexity.

  • Google is the leading partner to help revamp Siri, potentially via a custom Gemini model running on Apple servers, and the companies have a formal agreement to test Gemini for Siri summaries.

  • The new Siri will use a planner to interpret prompts, a search system to scan user data or the internet, and a summarizer to package results for users.

  • Apple plans to use its own models to search user data and is evaluating Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini for the planning function.

  • This is part of a broader and delayed Siri upgrade that will enable actions based on on-screen content and deeper use of personal data.

  • Timeline cited in the report says Apple could ship the AI-upgraded Siri with iOS 26.4 as early as March, following an expected iPhone 17 reveal next week.
