OpenAI Acquires Jony Ive's AI Devices Startup io for $6.4 Billion

Intelligence: OpenAI announced its acquisition of io, a startup founded by Apple design legend Jony Ive, for approximately $6.4 billion in an all-equity deal, marking a major expansion into hardware innovation.

• The $6.4 billion figure includes OpenAI's existing 23% stake in io, making this its largest acquisition to date. This follows a $3 billion deal for AI-assisted coding tool Windsurf just weeks prior.

• Ive will assume significant creative and design responsibilities within OpenAI and io, while his design firm, LoveFrom, will remain independent.
