  • As of April, 32.4% of U.S. businesses were subscribing to OpenAI's models, up from 18.9% in January and 28% in March.

  • Competitors lag, with only 8% of businesses subscribing to Anthropic's products and a sharp decline in Google AI subscriptions from 2.3% to 0.1%.

  • Ramp Economist Ara Kharzian highlighted OpenAI's rapid customer acquisition compared to its rivals.

  • Ramp’s AI Index is based on a dataset of around 30,000 companies but has limitations, potentially missing additional AI-related expenditures scattered across different cost centers.

  • OpenAI has reportedly grown its business users from 1 million to over 2 million since September.

  • The company anticipates $12.7 billion in revenue for 2023, with projections of $29.4 billion for 2026, despite not expecting to be cash-flow positive until 2029.

  • OpenAI is considering charging enterprises thousands of dollars for specialized AI agents aimed at software engineering and research.

Trump Dismisses Top Copyright Official Amid AI Controversy

Intelligence: President Donald Trump has terminated Shira Perlmutter, the Register of Copyrights, following her refusal to endorse Elon Musk's controversial plans to utilize copyrighted materials for AI development, raising concerns about interference in copyright regulation.

  • Perlmutter was informed of her dismissal from the U.S. Copyright Office by the White House on Saturday, a role traditionally overseen by the legislative branch.

  • The position of Register of Copyrights is appointed by the Librarian of Congress, which Trump also dismissed last Thursday without explanation; Carla Hayden previously held the role.

  • Perlmutter was appointed in October 2020, shortly after Hayden's confirmation by the Senate in 2016 for a 10-year term.

  • Rep. Joe Morelle, a leading Democrat on the House Administration Committee, claims the timing of Perlmutter's firing is tied to her recent report on AI, which raised questions about the use of copyrighted content in AI training.

  • Morelle condemned the decision as an infringement on Congress's authorities and warned it could destabilize the copyright industry, which is worth trillions.

  • The White House has not yet issued a comment regarding Perlmutter's firing or the concerns raised by Morelle.
