OpenAI Introduces an AI-Native LaTeX Workspace Powered by GPT-5.2

Intelligence: OpenAI launched Prism, a free cloud-based workspace for scientific writing with GPT-5.2 integrated directly into LaTeX workflows, offering unlimited projects and collaborators to anyone with a ChatGPT personal account. Built on acquired platform Crixet, Prism consolidates drafting, revision, collaboration, and publication prep into a single environment where GPT-5.2 accesses full document context including structure, equations, references, and figures.

  • Researchers can search arXiv literature within their manuscript context and revise text based on newly identified related work, create and refactor equations with AI understanding cross-paper relationships, and turn whiteboard equations or diagrams directly into LaTeX without pixel-by-pixel graphics manipulation.

  • The platform supports unlimited collaborators without seat limits or subscriptions, addressing scientific research's collaborative nature across institutions and geographies while eliminating version conflicts and manual merging that consume time better spent on research substance.

  • OpenAI positions the launch as "an early step" toward AI meaningfully accelerating discovery in 2026, comparable to how "AI changed software development forever" in 2025, with more powerful features coming to paid ChatGPT plans over time.

  • By making high-quality scientific tools free and broadly available, OpenAI aims to expand research participation across institutions, disciplines, and career stages reducing friction in day-to-day work as AI begins to accelerate discovery through integrated workflows rather than isolated tools.

Moonshot AI Launches Kimi K2.5 Open Source Model With Coding Tool

Intelligence: Moonshot AI, backed by Alibaba and HongShan (formerly Sequoia China), released Kimi K2.5, an open source model trained on 15 trillion mixed visual and text tokens that understands text, images, and video natively. The company launched Kimi Code alongside the model to rival Anthropic's Claude Code and Google's Gemini CLI, as coding tools become major revenue drivers for AI labs.

  • Kimi K2.5 outperforms Gemini 3 Pro on SWE-Bench Verified and beats both GPT-5.2 and Gemini 3 Pro on SWE-Bench Multilingual for coding, while surpassing GPT-5.2 and Claude Opus 4.5 on VideoMMMU benchmark measuring video reasoning capabilities.

  • Kimi Code integrates with VSCode, Cursor, and Zed development software and accepts images or videos as input. Users can feed it interface screenshots or demos and ask it to build similar interfaces, going beyond text-only coding assistance.

  • The timing is strategic as Anthropic's Claude Code hit $1 billion ARR in November and added another $100 million by year-end 2025 per Wired, while Chinese competitor DeepSeek plans to release a new coding-focused model next month according to The Information.

  • Founded by former Google and Meta AI researcher Yang Zhilin, Moonshot raised $1 billion at $2.5 billion valuation in Series B, then secured $500 million at $4.3 billion valuation last month per Bloomberg, and is already seeking a new round at $5 billion valuation.
