OpenAI Introduced ChatGPT Atlas Browser

Intelligence: OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Atlas, a new macOS web browser built around ChatGPT. It features agent mode, optional browser memories, and enhanced privacy controls, with broader platform support coming soon.

• Atlas brings ChatGPT into the browser to understand pages and act on your behalf. It includes a new tab page for chat, plus tabs for search, links, images, videos, and news (where available).

• Availability begins worldwide on macOS for Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users. Business users can access it in beta, while Enterprise and Edu users may use it if enabled by administrators. Support for Windows, iOS, and Android is coming soon.

• Agent mode operates within the browser to research, analyze, automate tasks, plan events, and book appointments. It can open tabs and click through to complete tasks. This feature is currently in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business users.

• Privacy is central to Atlas. Users can enable optional browser memories, which can be viewed, archived, or deleted. Page-level visibility toggles and incognito mode allow users to log out of ChatGPT. By default, browsing content is not used to train models unless users opt in.

• Safety boundaries include no code execution, no file downloads, and no extension installations. Atlas does not access other apps or your file system. It pauses on sensitive sites and provides guidance to use logged-out mode and monitor actions due to risks like hidden malicious instructions.
