OpenAI is bringing ads to ChatGPT

Wikipedia gets into the AI fold

In partnership with

Did you know that we have LinkedIn and X accounts that you can follow?

Hi everyone,

You will soon start seeing ads on ChatGPT, for real. Now, Sam’s promised that he’ll do it in a careful way, but honestly this will push more people to Copilot / Gemini.

Also, Wikipedia is now selling its data to AI labs. This I’m a fan of. Honestly, everyone will start selling data to AI labs, including universities after the record lectures and smaller communities.

Let’s get right into it.

🤝IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MEMORYPLUGIN

Your AI should already know who you are.

MemoryPlugin adds persistent memory to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and 20+ other tools — one unified brain that remembers your preferences, projects, and context everywhere you work.

Built-in AI memory sounds great until you use it. ChatGPT forgets what you told it last week. Claude's memory is hit-or-miss. And none of them talk to each other — so you're re-explaining your tech stack, your preferences, your projects in every tool, every conversation.

MemoryPlugin is what AI memory should have been: one persistent layer across 20+ tools, organized into searchable buckets, fully in your control. Your context follows you — from ChatGPT to Claude to Gemini to TypingMind — without starting from scratch.

View, edit, delete anything. Your data stays yours. No black-box "we'll remember what we want."

Thousands already made the switch.

OpenAI Plans to Test Ads in ChatGPT for Free and Go Users

Intelligence: OpenAI announced it will test ads in ChatGPT for free and Go tier users in the coming weeks, starting with U.S. adults, while expanding ChatGPT Go globally at $8/month with expanded messaging, image creation, and file uploads. The company pledged that ads won't influence ChatGPT's answers, conversations will remain private from advertisers, and Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions will stay ad-free.

  • Ads will appear at the bottom of answers when there's a relevant sponsored product based on the current conversation, clearly labeled and separated from organic responses. Users can dismiss ads, learn why they're seeing them, or turn off personalization entirely.

  • OpenAI won't show ads to users under 18 or near sensitive topics like health, mental health, or politics, and emphasizes it doesn't optimize for time spent in ChatGPT, prioritizing user trust over revenue.

  • The move supports OpenAI's mission to make AI accessible to everyone by allowing more people to use ChatGPT with fewer usage limits without paying, while maintaining a diverse revenue model beyond enterprise and subscription businesses.

  • Future ad formats could let users ask questions directly within ads to make purchase decisions, with OpenAI positioning conversational AI ads as potentially more useful than static messages and helpful for small businesses competing against larger brands.

Wikipedia Monetizes AI Traffic with Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft Deals

Intelligence: Wikipedia announced partnerships with AI companies including Amazon, Meta, Perplexity, Microsoft, and Mistral AI on its 25th anniversary, letting them access content "at volume and speed designed for their needs" as the site monetizes heavy AI traffic.

  • The deals address aggressive data scraping that has taxed Wikipedia's servers. Human traffic fell 8% last year, while bot visits, sometimes disguised to evade detection, heavily strained infrastructure that isn't free to maintain.

  • Wales emphasized AI companies should "chip in and pay for your fair share" rather than having Wikipedia's 8 million individual donors subsidize tech giants, as the site works with AI developers instead of blocking them.

  • Wikipedia outlined an AI strategy that could help editors with tedious work like updating dead links by scanning text and finding new sources, plus evolving search from keywords to chatbot-style questions that quote relevant paragraphs directly.

  • The site faces criticism from political right figures who call it "Wokepedia" and accuse it of left-wing bias. Elon Musk launched rival Grokipedia, which Wales dismissed as "not a real threat" since it's based on large language models that "regurgitate Wikipedia" and "talk nonsense" on obscure topics.
