Nvidia Strikes $20 B Deal to License Groq’s AI Inference Technology

Intelligence: Nvidia’s agreement to license Groq’s inference IP and onboard its leadership, as detailed in a Groq blog post, signals a major push to fortify its AI inference capabilities ahead of rising competition.

• Deal valued at $20 billion includes a perpetual non-exclusive licensing of Groq’s inference IP and the acquihire of founder Jonathan Ross and President Sunny Madra

• Groq will remain independent under new CEO Simon Edwards, with GroqCloud services unaffected by the arrangement

• Nvidia plans to integrate Groq’s deterministic LPU chips into its AI Factory platform to bolster low-latency inference performance

• The structure bypasses a conventional takeover, reflecting Nvidia’s strategy to acquire technology and talent while mitigating antitrust scrutiny
