Runway Expands its AI Frontier with the Launch of GWM-1
Intelligence: Runway has upgraded its Gen-4.5 video model and introduced GWM-1, a new "General World Model" designed to simulate real-world environments and support interactive video generation.

Gen-4.5 now includes native audio generation, audio editing, and multi-shot editing that syncs visual changes across entire videos.
GWM-1 builds on Gen-4.5’s framework to generate video frame by frame, enabling real-time interaction through inputs like camera movements, robot commands, or audio prompts.
The model comes in three versions: 1) GWM Worlds for explorable environments, 2) GWM Avatars for lifelike characters, and 3) GWM Robotics for synthetic robot training data, with a goal to merge these into one unified model.
Runway’s move places it among leaders in developing world models, a field that aims to go beyond language models by giving AI systems spatial and physical awareness.
💬 ASK ME ANYTHING
Packt is hosting an AMA with me on the Reddit channel r/LLMEng as part of the launch of my new book Building Agents with OpenAI SDK. The AMA will be on Wednesday, December 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 am EST.
If you want to submit a question, you can send it here, and the last day to submit is December 15.

Last Time the Market Was This Expensive, Investors Waited 14 Years to Break Even
In 1999, the S&P 500 peaked. Then it took 14 years to gradually recover by 2013.
Today? Goldman Sachs sounds crazy forecasting 3% returns for 2024 to 2034.
But we’re currently seeing the highest price for the S&P 500 compared to earnings since the dot-com boom.
So, maybe that’s why they’re not alone; Vanguard projects about 5%.
In fact, now just about everything seems priced near all time highs. Equities, gold, crypto, etc.
But billionaires have long diversified a slice of their portfolios with one asset class that is poised to rebound.
It’s post war and contemporary art.
Sounds crazy, but over 70,000 investors have followed suit since 2019—with Masterworks.
You can invest in shares of artworks featuring Banksy, Basquiat, Picasso, and more.
24 exits later, results speak for themselves: net annualized returns like 14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8%.*

OpenAI Tests a Skills System Resembling Anthropic’s Modular Approach
Intelligence: OpenAI appears to be developing a new “skills” framework similar to the modular system Anthropic introduced last October, according to findings shared by developer Elias Judin on X.

Judin discovered new “pdfs” and “spreadsheets” directories inside OpenAI’s Codex CLI and ChatGPT environments, each containing a “skill.md” file with task-specific instructions.
These files describe how the system should handle subtasks such as text extraction or data processing, allowing one prompt to trigger a specialized sub-prompt for complex tasks.
The setup functions like a lightweight app framework, with each skill contained in a simple folder that can include configuration files or code.
Judin identified the system while using a “5.2 pro” model and published the file structure on GitHub for public review.
The discovery suggests OpenAI may be moving toward a plugin-like design where AI features are packaged as modular, reusable capabilities.
