Department of Labor Launches "Make America AI-Ready" Initiative for Worker AI Literacy

Intelligence: The U.S. Department of Labor launched "Make America AI-Ready," a free seven-day AI literacy course delivered entirely via text message, developed through a partnership with education technology company Arist to equip American workers with foundational skills aligned to the Labor Department's AI Literacy Framework.

  • Users can complete the course by texting "READY" to 20202 and engaging for just 10 minutes daily, designed for accessibility to workers without laptops or reliable internet access.

  • The course content covers five foundational areas: understanding AI principles and limitations, exploring AI tools and use cases, directing AI effectively with clear prompts, evaluating AI-generated results for accuracy, and using AI responsibly with ethical and security considerations.

  • The initiative advances the Trump Administration's broader commitment outlined in America's Talent Strategy and the White House AI Action Plan to prepare workers for an AI-driven economy.

  • Phone numbers used for enrollment are kept private and never shared or sold to third parties for marketing purposes.

  • The course concludes by offering participants resources for advanced AI skills development and career pathways based on individual interests and goals.

Auto Mode Gives Claude the Ability to Execute Safe Actions Without User Permission

Intelligence: Anthropic launched Auto Mode in research preview, enabling Claude to automatically execute safe actions without waiting for user approval while using AI safeguards to block risky behavior and detect prompt injection attacks, shifting the decision to seek permission from users to the AI itself.

  • Auto Mode extends Claude Code's existing "dangerously-skip-permissions" command by adding a safety layer that reviews each action for risky behavior and prompt injection attempts before execution.

  • The feature rolls out to Enterprise and API users in the coming days, currently supporting Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6, with Anthropic recommending isolated, sandboxed environments separate from production systems.

  • Auto Mode reflects a broader industry shift toward autonomous AI tools that act without constant human approval, balancing speed and control, a challenge GitHub, OpenAI, and other companies are similarly tackling.

  • Anthropic has not disclosed the specific criteria its safety layer uses to distinguish safe actions from risky ones, an important detail developers will likely want clarified before widespread adoption.

  • The launch follows Anthropic's recent releases of Claude Code Review, an automatic bug-catching code reviewer, and Dispatch for Cowork, which lets users delegate tasks to AI agents.
