Gemini 2.5 Model Family Expands with Flash-Lite and Pricing Updates

Intelligence: Google has officially launched stable versions of Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash, introduced a new lightweight Flash-Lite model in preview, and simplified pricing to offer developers more clarity and flexibility when choosing between performance, cost, and response latency.

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash are now generally available with no changes from their respective recent previews.

  • New Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite enters preview, optimized for speed and cost with the lowest latency and highest throughput in the 2.5 family. It's ideal for large-scale tasks like classification and summarization.

  • Flash-Lite supports dynamic “thinking” control, but it’s off by default to prioritize speed. Developers can turn it on via API.

  • Flash-Lite integrates with key tools, including Grounding with Google Search, Code Execution, URL Context, and function calling.

  • Flash-Lite offers a cheaper alternative to Flash for latency-sensitive use cases, with or without reasoning enabled.

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro shows the highest adoption ever, with strong performance on complex tasks like coding and agent workflows. Stable version now live under “Gemini-2.5-pro”.
