Google Labs Launches Mixboard, an AI Concepting Board

Intelligence: Google Labs introduced Mixboard, an experimental AI concepting board now in public beta in the US, designed to help people explore and refine ideas with generated images and text.

• Mixboard offers an open canvas that uses generative AI to help visualize ideas across projects like home decor, events, products, and DIY.

• Users can start from a text prompt or choose from pre-populated boards. Users can bring their own images or have AI generate unique visuals.

• Natural language edits let you make small changes, combine images, and more using the new image editing model called Nano Banana.

• One-click options like "regenerate" and more like this create fast variations of ideas.

• Available as a public beta in the US at labs.google/mixboard with a Discord community to follow updates, framed as an early experiment to make it easier for anyone to use AI to explore ideas

Sam Altman and OpenAI expand Stargate with Five New U.S. AI Data Center Sites

Intelligence: OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank announced five new U.S. Stargate sites, bringing planned capacity near 7 gigawatts and more than 400 billion dollars in investment over the next three years, keeping them ahead of schedule toward a 500 billion dollar, 10 gigawatt goal by the end of 2025.

• OpenAI and Oracle agreed in July to develop up to 4.5 gigawatts of additional Stargate capacity, a partnership valued at more than 300 billion dollars over five years.

• Three Oracle-developed sites in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and a to-be-announced Midwest location, plus a potential 600-megawatt expansion near Abilene, can deliver over 5.5 gigawatts.

• Two SoftBank-partnered sites in Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas, can scale to 1.5 gigawatts in 18 months, with SB Energy providing powered infrastructure for a fast-build data center, and Lordstown is expected to be operational next year.

• The effort is expected to create more than 25,000 onsite jobs and tens of thousands of additional jobs across the U.S.

• Sites were chosen from over 300 proposals in more than 30 states and built on a $500 billion U.S. AI infrastructure push first announced at the White House alongside President Trump.

• The Abilene flagship is live on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with NVIDIA GB200 racks already delivering early training and inference, as leaders framed compute scale and cost efficiency as key to making advanced AI widely accessible.
