Microsoft AI Previews Purpose-Built Models MAI Voice 1 and MAI 1 Preview

Intelligence: Microsoft AI announced its first in-house voice and foundation models, began public testing, and started integrating them into Copilot as part of its AI for everyone strategy.

• Microsoft AI introduced MAI Voice 1, a high-fidelity speech generation model now powering Copilot Daily and Podcasts and available in Copilot Labs demos, capable of producing a full minute of audio in under a second on a single GPU.

• The company began public testing of MAI 1 preview, a mixture of expert foundation models trained and post-trained on about 15,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, accessible on LMArena and rolling into select Copilot text use cases.

• MAI is gathering feedback through LMArena and a limited API program for trusted testers to improve instruction following and everyday helpfulness.

• Strategy focuses on purpose-built models and orchestrating specialized models across user intents while combining internal, partner, and open-source systems to deliver the best outcomes.

Anthropic Details Misuse of Claude by Cybercriminals and Its Countermeasures

Intelligence: Anthropic released a threat intelligence report on how criminals misused Claude and the actions the company is taking to detect, disrupt, and prevent similar abuse.

• Threat actors are exploiting agentic AI for active operations, embedding AI across the attack lifecycle and lowering barriers so low-skilled criminals can run sophisticated schemes.

• Data extortion case study. A group used Claude Code to scale theft and extortion against at least 17 organizations across sensitive sectors, with ransom demands sometimes exceeding 500,000 dollars. Anthropic banned the accounts, built a tailored classifier, added new detection methods, and shared indicators with authorities.

• Fraudulent employment case study. North Korean operatives used Claude to create false identities, pass technical screenings, and perform remote tech work at major US firms to generate sanctioned revenue. Anthropic banned accounts, improved indicator collection and correlation, and notified authorities.

• Ransomware sales case study. A cybercriminal relied on Claude to build and sell multiple ransomware variants for about 400 to 1,200 dollars despite limited coding skills. Anthropic banned the account, alerted partners, and added new detection for malware upload, modification, and generation.

• Agentic AI enables both technical support and adaptive execution during attacks, making defense and enforcement harder as tools adjust in real time to countermeasures.
