Intelligence: Microsoft has renamed the Microsoft 365 app to "Microsoft 365 Copilot" across web, mobile, and Windows, marking a shift from productivity tool to AI-powered workspace. The rebrand started rolling out January 15th and redirects users from office.com and microsoft365.com to the unified m365.cloud.microsoft domain, reflecting how Copilot has become central to everyday work rather than an add-on feature.

• The app keeps its core function as a hub for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDFs, but now positions Copilot Chat as the primary way people interact with their documents and tasks.

• Users with work or school accounts get Copilot Chat at no extra cost with any Microsoft 365 license, while personal account holders need a Personal, Family, or Premium subscription to access it.

• The rebrand doesn't change functionality for existing users—the app updates automatically when connected to the internet, requiring only a restart to see the new name and icon.

• Microsoft is drawing a clear line between two products: the Microsoft 365 Copilot app focuses on productivity and file management for work and personal use, while the standalone Microsoft Copilot app serves as a general AI companion for everyday questions and learning.

• In regions where Copilot isn't available, the app removes the Copilot tab from the home screen but keeps the Microsoft 365 Copilot name and icon for consistent branding worldwide.
