Intelligence: Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, has released Grok Imagine, a tool that allows subscribers on the X app to generate images and short videos, including some explicit content, raising new debate over responsible AI innovation.

• Grok Imagine is available to SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers, allowing users to create 15-second AI-generated videos (with audio) or images from text or photo prompts on its iOS app.

• The generator includes an optional “spicy mode” that permits creation of sexually explicit content (NSFW). Still, with limits, many highly explicit prompts return blurred or blocked results, although semi-nude images can be produced.

• Recent features from xAI, including an adult-themed anime AI companion, signal Musk’s embrace of fewer restraints on AI-powered content, a stance consistent with his broader positioning of Grok as an “unfiltered” chatbot.

• The tool has built-in restrictions, especially concerning images of public figures. For example, user attempts to generate outlandish scenarios with celebrities like Donald Trump resulted in only suggestive but non-explicit images.

• Early reviewers note the technology is fast and the interface user-friendly, though visuals of humans often appear cartoon-like or unnatural, with “waxy” skin and limited realism.
