GPTZero Traces a Pattern of Fabricated Citations Across Four PwC Reports
Intelligence: Investigators at GPTZero dug into a set of PwC reports meant to drum up consulting business in the Middle East, and found fabricated claims, invented sources, and citations that don't match what they supposedly support.
A 2025 report described a government framework called “Citizen Pulse” as if it were already deployed worldwide, but GPTZero found no evidence it exists at all.
Lawyers and academics have run into similar problems, with fake case citations and dubious papers slipping past review in other fields.
One footnote cited a Medium blogger with 280 followers as a source for a JPMorgan initiative involving autonomous AI agents.
A researcher found the same statistic about traffic accidents cited three separate times across two pages, each time attributed to a different source.
PwC's response downplayed the findings, saying only that it was updating “a limited number” of citations.

OpenAI Publishes Emails It Says Undercut Apple's Trade Secrets Lawsuit
Intelligence: OpenAI published a detailed rebuttal to Apple's trade secrets lawsuit, laying out emails and messages that it says tell a different story than the one in Apple's court filing, including how contact between the two companies actually played out in the months before Apple sued.
Apple's outside counsel initially claimed to have spoken by phone with OpenAI's general counsel, a claim Apple later admitted was false.
The mix-up traced back to a misdirected email, with Apple's lawyer confusing two employees with similar last names.
OpenAI says Apple was told at the time that any issues were being resolved, then heard nothing for five months before the lawsuit was filed.
Text messages show Apple employees, not Chang Liu, initiating contact and asking for help locating files after his last day at the company.
One Apple employee flagged the situation as irregular partway through the exchange and asked to be removed from the thread.
