How Google Went from Search Threat to AI Powerhouse in One Year

Intelligence: A year after generative AI threatened Google's search dominance and advertising revenue, the company reversed its fortunes by launching Gemini 3, now considered the best AI model, halving ChatGPT's market share by October 2025, and climbing 65% in stock value to cross $4 trillion in market cap for the first time. Google now holds stakes across every layer of the AI value chain, from custom TPU processors to applications.

  • Gemini 3 was trained exclusively on Google's TPUs (custom processors), with even competitor Anthropic using Google TPUs to train Claude 4.5 shortly after positioning Google as the infrastructure backbone even for rival AI labs.

  • Apple's announcement that updated Siri will run on Gemini, combined with the Universal Commerce Protocol launch, signals Google's 2026 focus on the application layer to stabilize the AI industry and shed the "bubble" tag.

  • Google became only the fourth company in history to hit a $4 trillion valuation, joining Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft, though Apple and Microsoft have since dropped below that mark, leaving Google second only to Nvidia.

  • Despite trailing Nvidia in valuation, Google actually surpasses it in revenue and operating income, reflecting a more diversified business model beyond AI chips as the company transforms from search gateway to AI platform.

Davos Pivots from AI Hype to Real Deployment

Intelligence: Davos 2026 marked a shift from "capability demos" to "deployment at scale" as the core narrative, with capital seeking teams that can operationalize AI, quantum, and edge systems in regulated environments. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pushed an "EU Inc." framework for faster company creation and digital sovereignty, while major announcements spanned quantum-resistant currency to 20 million worker reskilling pledges by 2030.

  • WISeKey launched SEALCOIN, a space-based quantum-resistant digital currency platform operating via low-Earth-orbit satellites to future-proof transactions against "Q-day" cryptographic threats positioning a new infrastructure category spanning semiconductors, satellites, and post-quantum software.

  • Over 25 major companies committed to reskilling 20 million workers by 2030 as part of WEF's 1 billion-person goal, signaling a procurement-backed market for edtech, HR-tech, and workforce analytics platforms that measure skills and link learning to employment outcomes.

  • Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon highlighted the shift from cloud to edge computing with inference happening at device level spanning smart wearables, industrial robotics, and automotive, requiring massive data center expansion and clean power innovation as AI workloads explode.

  • BlackRock's Larry Fink rejected AI "bubble" claims while warning individual failures lie ahead, and Palantir's Alex Karp cautioned Europe faces a "serious structural problem" if it can't match US and China deployment pace, with multiple CEOs citing workforce anxiety and AI's social license as hard constraints on adoption.
