Google Launches Opal, Its Own AI “Vibe-Coding” Tool
Intelligence: Google is testing a new AI-driven coding tool called Opal, aiming to make app creation as easy as typing a sentence, marking its entry into the rapidly expanding world of “vibe-coding” tools.

“Vibe-coding” tools enable users to create apps using simple text prompts instead of traditional coding.
Google’s Opal, available via Google Labs to U.S. users, lets people describe the app they want and then automatically generates a mini web app using Google’s AI.
Users can remix existing apps from a shared gallery, edit workflow steps visually, adjust prompts, and add manual steps from Opal’s interface.
Finished apps can be published online and shared through links, with others able to try them using Google accounts.
Google already has an AI Studio for developers, but Opal’s visual workflow and ease-of-use target non-technical users.
The move reflects heated competition, as startups like Lovable and Cursor attract investor attention, and big platforms like Canva, Figma, and Replit race to offer similar app-prototyping tools.

YouTube Rolls Out New AI Creation Tools for Shorts
Intelligence: YouTube is introducing a suite of new AI-powered creation tools for Shorts, making it easier and more entertaining for users to bring their ideas to life through dynamic videos and effects.

Users can instantly turn any photo from their camera roll into an animated video, adding movement and creative effects to personal memories or group pictures. This feature is rolling out free in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions to follow later this year.
The latest AI effects transform selfies or doodles into playful, imaginative videos such as swimming underwater or twinning with a lookalike. These can be found in the Shorts camera under the Effects section and will expand to more creators worldwide soon.
Both Photo to Video and generative effects utilize Veo 2, with an upgrade to Veo 3 coming later this summer.
The new AI playground acts as a central hub for trying out AI creation tools, browsing inspirational content, and generating videos, images, and music using pre-filled prompts currently available to select regions.
All AI-generated content on these platforms is clearly labeled and includes SynthID watermarks to indicate its artificial origin.
