Ask Maps Adds Agentic Booking Across Food, Travel, And Events

Intelligence: Google Maps' Ask Maps feature is picking up a set of agentic tools that let it place food orders, compare hotels, and surface event tickets directly inside the app, alongside an optional feature that lets it draw on Gmail and Calendar for more personalized answers.

  • Ask Maps can now surface restaurants matching a specific request and route orders through partners like Square, Toast, or Uber Eats.

  • The tool can compare hotel prices and availability based on a detailed request, then hand off to the partner site to complete the booking.

  • A new live transit widget keeps riders updated on delays and changing conditions in real time.

  • Ask Maps now remembers earlier conversations, so someone can ask what it previously suggested for a trip without starting over.

  • Personal Intelligence lets Ask Maps pull from a user's Gmail and Calendar to answer questions like what time a flight lands, though the feature ships off by default.

OpenAI Brings NextSlide's In To Build Its Presentation Tools

Intelligence: OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup that turns prompts, notes, and documents into editable slide decks, with founder Ahmed Beshry confirming the deal actually closed months before the announcement went public.

  • NextSlide's tool converts typed prompts, files, or research into a polished deck that people can still edit and rearrange themselves.

  • Founder Ahmed Beshry previously built Caper AI, a startup behind smart shopping carts and cashier-less checkout systems.

  • The NextSlide team is staying together inside OpenAI to keep building tools that turn ideas into finished work.

  • ChatGPT already handles the writing, but turning that text into a designed deck is a separate skill OpenAI apparently decided to buy rather than build.
