Firefox adds AI Window and user-controlled kill switch for AI features

Intelligence: Firefox is launching a new AI Window and a universal AI kill switch to ensure AI tools remain fully opt-in and under user control

• The AI Window mode will appear alongside classic and private windows, offering an isolated, opt-in space for AI-powered browsing

• A global off toggle will let users disable and remove all AI features, preventing models from running or downloading until reactivated

• All built-in AI tools must be explicitly enabled, so no AI processing occurs by default or in hidden background tasks

• The kill switch feature is slated for rollout in Q1 2026, likely shipping with Firefox 147 or a subsequent early-2026 update

• This approach reinforces Firefox’s privacy-first ethos, with AI processing handled locally and activated only with clear user consent
