Google’s I/O 2025 Conference Focuses on AI and XR Innovations

Intelligence: Google’s upcoming I/O developer conference will shift its spotlight primarily to AI innovations, with little expectation of significant Android OS updates.

• Event Timing and Viewing: Google I/O will take place on May 20th and 21st, starting with the keynote at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on May 20th. The keynote can be streamed on Google’s I/O site and YouTube, with an ASL interpreter version available.

• Primary Focus on AI: The keynote will largely revolve around AI developments, particularly advancements related to Google’s Gemini project, in a competitive landscape alongside tech giants like OpenAI and Microsoft. Expectations include announcements of new Gemini features, enhanced model capabilities, and updates from Project Astra, showcasing Google’s ambitious AI efforts.

• Extended Reality (XR) Updates: Google will also provide insights into its XR advancements, including updates on the extended reality OS. Sameer Samat has hinted at a closer look at Google’s upcoming smart glasses, positioned to compete with Samsung’s Project Moohan XR headset.
