Opus 5 Becomes the Default Model Across Claude Max and Pro
Intelligence: Anthropic's newest Claude model comes close to matching its priciest, most powerful one on intelligence, all while costing half as much and quietly becoming the model most people will run into by default.

It's the new state of the art on coding and knowledge work benchmarks like Frontier-Bench and GDPval-AA, though it still trails Mythos 5 on cybersecurity tasks.
On ARC-AGI 3, a benchmark built around problems the model has never seen before, Opus 5 scores 3x higher than the next best model.
It also picked up real gains in scientific research, scoring over 10 percentage points higher than Opus 4.8 on organic chemistry tasks like reading molecular structures from spectroscopy data.
Anthropic's own testing found Opus 5 to be its most aligned model yet, with the lowest rates of deceptive behavior of any Claude model so far.
In one test, engineers gave Opus 5 a drawing of a machine part but blocked it from actually seeing the image, so it wrote its own computer vision pipeline to pull the geometry out and rebuild the part in 3D, something no competing model managed after five tries.
