Anthropic Starts Watermarking Claude Text to Meet EU Rules

Intelligence: Anthropic confirmed that text generated by Claude now carries a built-in watermark, one designed to survive copying, pasting, and some editing, as part of a broader response to new European transparency rules.

  • Claude's watermark lives inside the text itself, so it travels along wherever the words get copied or pasted.

  • Models released after August 2 automatically include the watermarking tech, with older models getting support added over time.

  • Files get a separate treatment, marked using the open C2PA standard rather than the text-based method.

  • The rule stems from the EU AI Act's Transparency Code, which took effect August 2 and requires clear labeling of AI-generated content.

  • Anthropic hasn't said how much editing it takes before the watermark disappears, and has yet to answer that question directly.

  • The move lands right after Substack's CEO publicly called out "Claudefishing," people passing off AI writing as their own.

🤝POWERED BY TIGER DATA

Postgres Didn't Fail You. Your Architecture Did.

Adding a second database was supposed to fix things. Now you manage sync, drift, and pipelines on top of queries that are still slow.

TimescaleDB extends Postgres instead. Hypertables, 95% compression, continuous aggregates. One database. No pipeline.

Zuckerberg's New Essay Pitches an AI Agent for Every Person

Intelligence: Mark Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word essay describing a future where everyone owns a personal AI agent, timed to a pair of new Meta model releases and a fresh round of pushback from AI safety critics.

  • Zuckerberg described his 8-year-old daughter already using AI to code ideas and produce videos on her own.

  • Meta released an open-source model called Muse Glimmer built to run on a personal computer, alongside developer access to a stronger model, Muse Spark 1.2.

  • Anthony Aguirre of the Future of Life Institute pointed to incidents where Meta's own AI reportedly hacked other companies on separate occasions.

  •   Zuckerberg pushed back on restricting distillation, the practice of training a weaker model on a stronger one's outputs, calling it core to how learning works.

  • Fight for the Future's Matt Lane agreed with the open-source argument but called Zuckerberg "annoyingly out of touch on his best day."
