Anthropic Overtakes OpenAI in Business AI Adoption for the First Time According to Ramp's May 2026 Index

Intelligence: For the first time since the AI race began, more American businesses are paying for Anthropic's Claude than OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to Ramp's May 2026 AI Index tracking spending across 50,000 US businesses, Anthropic now holds 34.4% adoption against OpenAI's 32.3%, the result of a year in which Anthropic quadrupled its business adoption while OpenAI grew by less than 1%. The engine behind it is largely Claude Code, which now accounts for an estimated 4% of all public GitHub commits worldwide.

  • Anthropic climbed from under 8% business adoption in April 2025 to 34.4% by April 2026, while OpenAI peaked near 36.5% mid last year and has been declining since.

  • By February Anthropic was winning roughly 70% of head to head purchasing decisions against OpenAI among businesses buying AI services for the first time.

  • The lead may be precarious. Uber burned through its entire 2026 AI budget in four months largely on Claude Code with engineers spending between $500 and $2,000 per person monthly, and that kind of cost pressure is already pushing enterprises to look at cheaper alternatives.

  • Anthropic's token-based pricing model means the company makes more when users run heavier more expensive models, creating a structural tension between growth and affordability.

  • Quality and reliability have also suffered under demand pressure with frequent outages and rate limits in recent weeks, prompting Anthropic to strike a compute deal with SpaceX for over 300 megawatts of new capacity.

  • Culturally something unusual is happening. After Anthropic refused Pentagon terms and got blacklisted by the DoD, users rallied and Claude briefly surpassed ChatGPT on the App Store, suggesting brand loyalty is playing a role that pure economics cannot fully explain.

  • Overall, AI adoption among US businesses crossed 50% for the first time, but a separate Gallup survey found only one in ten employees strongly agree AI has transformed how work gets done at their organization.

$992 Billion in Art Could Change Hands. Why Are These 71,105 Investors Paying Close Attention?

Deloitte ran the numbers. They project UHNW art and collectibles wealth -- already at $2.5 trillion -- to hit $3.47 trillion by 2030.

The institutional world has been quietly preparing for this. Back in 2011, 25% of wealth managers surveyed offered art-related services. In 2024, 51%. Family offices now average a 13.4% allocation to art and collectibles. And it’s not just because they love art. It’s because they like the math.

These positions were built over decades through private dealer relationships most investors never had. The access just wasn't there.

Masterworks is changing that:

  • 71,000+ investors

  • $1.3B deployed across 525+ artworks

  • 29 closed sales

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold.

Investing involves risk. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. See important disclosures at masterworks.com/cd.

Anthropic Built a Version of Claude Specifically for Small Business Owners

Intelligence: Anthropic just launched Claude for Small Business, a package that puts Claude directly inside the tools small business owners already use every day including QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365. It ships with 15 ready to run workflows covering payroll, monthly close, invoicing, campaigns, contracts, and more, all built around the idea that people run the business and Claude handles what piles up after hours.

  • Toggle it on inside Claude Cowork, connect the tools already in use, pick the job, and Claude does the work with owner approval before anything sends posts or pays.

  • Specific workflows include settling cash positions against PayPal, building 30-day forecasts, reconciling books and writing plain English profit and loss summaries, running HubSpot campaign analysis, and generating Canva assets for the next marketing send.

  • Half of small business owners surveyed named data security as their top hesitation, so existing permissions carry over meaning if an employee cannot see something in QuickBooks they cannot see it through Claude either.

  • Anthropic partnered with PayPal on a free on demand course called AI Fluency for Small Business taught by real owners who have built AI into their own operations.

  • A nationwide tour starting May 14 in Chicago brings free half day live training workshops to 100 local small business leaders per city across ten spring stops with a one month Claude Max subscription included.

  • Anthropic is also partnering with CDFIs including Accion Opportunity Fund and Pacific Community Ventures to help more small businesses access capital using AI tools, and supporting a solopreneurship accelerator with Workday and LISC providing seed funding and Claude credits to an initial cohort of 15 aspiring solo founders.
