Anthropic Survey Revealed That AI Boosts Productivity But Raises Job Fears
Intelligence: Anthropic surveyed 81,000 Claude users and found something that feels counterintuitive at first. The people getting the biggest productivity boosts from AI are often the same ones most worried about losing their jobs to it.

Workers in highly AI exposed roles like software engineers expressed job displacement fears 3x more often than those in low exposure jobs like elementary school teachers.
Early career workers were significantly more likely to fear displacement than senior professionals, which lines up with earlier research showing signs of a slowdown in hiring recent graduates.
The average productivity rating across respondents was 5.1 out of 7, landing at "substantially more productive," though active Claude users who agreed to a survey are likely more positive than average.
The most common productivity gain was scope, meaning AI helped people do things they simply could not do before, cited by 48% of respondents who mentioned productivity effects.
High paid workers like software developers reported the biggest gains, but low wage workers also reported meaningful benefits including a delivery driver building an e-commerce business and a landscaper making a music app.
Only 10% of respondents said their employer or clients were capturing most of the gains, while the majority said the benefits flowed to themselves through faster work, expanded skills, and freed up time.
Early career workers were less likely to personally benefit with only 60% reporting gains for themselves compared to 80% of senior professionals.

Meta’s Largest Layoff Since 2023 Points to AI Investment
Intelligence: Meta is cutting 10% of its workforce, around 8,000 people, next month in what will be its largest round of layoffs since 2023. The driving force is straightforward. The company is spending $135 billion on AI this year, roughly what it spent on AI in the previous three years combined, and it has decided it needs fewer people to do the same amount of work.

Zuckerberg said in January that one person with AI can now do what used to require a whole team, essentially signaling this moment weeks before it arrived.
Meta also told employees this week it would begin logging their interactions with work computers to help train its AI models.
The company is not just cutting existing staff but also freezing thousands of open roles it had already been hiring for.
Meta has already laid off around 2,000 workers earlier this year in two smaller rounds, making this the third and largest cut of 2026.
Meta is not alone. Amazon has cut more than 30,000 workers, Oracle more than 10,000, Block nearly half its staff, and Snap around 1,000, with AI investment cited as a factor across nearly all of them.
Microsoft also announced the same day that it would offer voluntary buyouts to thousands of longer tenured employees.
