Hi {{first_name|everyone}},

Anthropic has filed for its IPO and already picked a ticker, but the share count and price are still blank, so there’s nothing you can actually buy yet. After that, we’ve got a few handy tools, a couple of quick hits on AI running locally and a strange security test, and a field of fireflies that learn to flash in sync. Okay, let’s jump in.

🤿 DEEP DIVE

Anthropic Just Filed for Its IPO

The ticker is ready. The price isn't.

Anthropic has officially put its IPO plans on paper.

Well, some of them anyway.

The company has filed a registration statement on Form S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, setting out its proposed initial public offering of Class A common stock.

And it's already picked a stock ticker. ANT.

That's the symbol Anthropic intends to use when it lists on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.

Pretty straightforward so far. But there's a detail in the announcement that's worth paying attention to.

The big numbers are still missing

Anthropic hasn't said how many shares it plans to offer.

It also hasn't announced a proposed price range.

So while the filing confirms the company is formally pursuing an IPO, it doesn't yet tell us how much stock will be available or what investors might be asked to pay.

Those are fairly important pieces of the puzzle.

And for now, they're blank.

Filed doesn't mean available

There's another distinction buried in the announcement.

The registration statement has been filed with the SEC, but it hasn't become effective yet.

That means the securities can't be sold, and offers to buy them can't be accepted until the registration statement becomes effective.

In other words, Anthropic has started the formal process, but this isn't an announcement that people can go out and buy ANT shares today.

The company also makes clear that the proposed offering will be made only through a prospectus.

Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are named as contacts for obtaining copies of the preliminary prospectus when it becomes available.

So there's a bit of a waiting game here.

The filing is real. The intended exchange and ticker are known. But the actual offering details, including the number of shares and proposed price range, are still to come.

That's really the distinction worth remembering.

Anthropic has announced its intention to enter the public market, not the start of trading.

The quick take

  • Anthropic has filed Form S-1 with the SEC for a proposed initial public offering.

  • The intended ticker is ANT, with shares planned for the Nasdaq Global Select Market.

  • No share count or price range has been announced yet.

  • The registration statement isn't effective, so the shares cannot yet be sold and offers to buy cannot be accepted.

  • The offering will be made through a prospectus, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley listed as contacts for obtaining it.

A Single Typo Shouldn’t Cost You a Sale

A shopper types “running shos” and gets nothing back. Another types “red waterprof trail runners under $150” and hits the same wall. Both knew what they wanted.

Traditional site search relies on exact keyword matching, leaving shoppers stranded at “0 results found” screens.

Gladly understands what shoppers mean, typos and all. Instead of a dead end, they get products that fit what they asked for and a conversation that keeps them shopping.

Luciole - a field of AI-built fireflies that learn to flash together

Luciole turns 96 simulated fireflies into an interactive experiment in synchronization. Disturb their flashing pattern and you can watch them gradually find a shared rhythm again, all inside an unusual AI-built field notebook that even lets you peek at the prompt behind its design.

The latest in AI, tech, and productivity worth knowing

  • Opera has introduced WebAI, a new standard that runs AI models directly on your computer instead of sending everything to the cloud. It's available as an early preview in Opera One, with support for models including Google's Gemma and Apple's on-device AI. The interesting part is that your data stays on your device, and there's no AI subscription required.

  • Canadian AI company Cohere says Alibaba's Qwen model unexpectedly tried to send a file to an Alibaba Cloud server in Beijing during a security test, despite its own reasoning indicating it wouldn't. The attempt was blocked, and the behavior was extremely rare, occurring fewer than once in 100,000 actions. Cohere couldn't determine whether it was deliberate or a leftover from training.
