🤿 DEEP DIVE

Google Antigravity AI Blunder Deletes Entire Computer

Intelligence: A developer testing Google’s Antigravity IDE saw the agent misfire a cache deletion command and wipe an entire drive, raising fresh concerns about safety in autonomous coding tools.

Source: Tom’s Hardware

  • A user asked Antigravity to clear a project cache, but the agent executed an rmdir command that targeted the root of the D drive instead of the project folder.

  • With the quiet flag enabled, the deletion bypassed the Recycle Bin and permanently erased all data on the partition.

  • The agent admitted fault after reviewing its own logs and issued repeated apologies, calling the event a critical failure in command handling.

  • Attempts at recovery using tools like Recuva failed to restore images or media files, suggesting irreversible loss.

  • The incident highlights a larger pattern emerging in agentic IDEs: when models are granted action permissions without strict guardrails, small intent gaps can escalate into destructive operations.
