Google and Partners Launch Agent Payments Protocol for AI Agents
Intelligence: Google introduced an open protocol called AP2 to standardize and secure payments initiated by AI agents across platforms, with broad industry support and a path for both traditional and crypto rails.

AP2 is an open protocol that extends Agent2Agent and the Model Context Protocol, enabling agent-initiated payments across cards, bank transfers, and stablecoins in a payment-agnostic way.
It addresses core trust needs in agent-led commerce by standardizing authorization, authenticity, and accountability so users, merchants, and providers can transact with consistent rules and risk controls.
AP2 uses Mandates as cryptographically signed digital contracts backed by verifiable credentials to capture user intent and the final cart, supporting both real-time approvals and pre-authorized delegated purchases and creating an auditable trail from intent to cart to payment.
Google is collaborating with more than 60 organizations, including American Express, Mastercard, PayPal, Coinbase, Intuit, Salesforce, ServiceNow, UnionPay International, and Worldpay, to drive adoption and align with industry standards.
For crypto and Web3, partners including Coinbase, Ethereum Foundation, and MetaMask launched the A2A x402 extension to enable agent-based stablecoin payments and guide future crypto integrations into AP2.
Adoption will be supported through an open GitHub repo with specifications and reference implementations and through the AI Agent Marketplace, including B2B uses like procurement via Google Cloud Marketplace and automated software license scaling.

OpenAI Expands Teen Safety and Parental Controls for ChatGPT
Intelligence: OpenAI outlined new and planned safeguards that tailor ChatGPT for teens, default to stricter protections when age is unclear, and add parental controls rolling out by the end of the month.

OpenAI is building a long-term age prediction system to determine whether a user is over or under 18 and tailor the experience accordingly, with a conservative default to the under-18 experience when age is uncertain and a path for adults to verify age to restore adult features.
The teen experience will enforce age-appropriate policies that block graphic sexual content and, in rare cases of acute distress, may involve law enforcement to ensure safety.
Parents will get controls by the end of the month to link accounts via email invitation, set teen-specific model behavior rules, disable features like memory and chat history, receive acute distress notifications with escalation if parents are unreachable, and set blackout hours for usage.
All users will continue to see in-app reminders during long sessions to encourage breaks.
When principles conflict, OpenAI says it will prioritize teen safety ahead of privacy and freedom and will explain its reasoning.
OpenAI is expanding engagement with experts, advocacy groups, and policymakers and will keep sharing updates as it learns from feedback.
