DHS Launches AI Chatbot DHSChat to Enhance Internal Efficiency
Intelligence: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has introduced DHSChat, an AI chatbot aimed at improving the operational efficiency of its 19,000 employees and select users across other agencies.
DHSChat is specifically designed for internal use within the DHS and selected partner agencies to assist staff with a variety of tasks.
Developed by the DHS AI Corps and led by Michael Boyce, the chatbot draws from popular generative AI technologies like ChatGPT and Claude.
The chatbot helps employees with routine tasks such as summarizing complex documents, generating computer code, and streamlining repetitive tasks like data entry.
DHSChat operates in a secure environment, ensuring that non-public data remains protected while allowing employees to harness generative AI capabilities.
Some immediate use cases include enhancing communications in grant programs and potentially increasing capacity by 25%, simplifying complex cyber terminology for easier comprehension among employees, and designing efficient training programs and study aids, particularly for the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Risk Management Framework.
